The Tamil Nadu government on Monday issued a sweeping new government order targeting caste-based slurs and discriminatory language in public discourse across the state.
The order, issued under the authority of CM Vijay's administration, directs all district collectors, police superintendents, and local body officials to take immediate and strict action against anyone using caste-based abusive language in public spaces.
The circular — described in official language as "that statement should not be made at all" — covers spoken words, written slogans, wall graffiti, and digital media.
The order is widely seen as a direct application of the Dravidian social justice principles that TVK invoked throughout its election campaign, and signals the new government's intent to give teeth to anti-discrimination provisions under Article 17 of the Constitution and Tamil Nadu's own anti-caste laws.
