CM Vijay Chairs Second TVK Alliance Coordination Meeting to Draft Common Minimum Programme

Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay chaired the second coordination meeting of the party's post-poll alliance on September 9 at the TVK headquarters in Panaiyur, on the outskirts of Chennai. The meeting was scheduled for 4 p.m.

According to the party, the meeting was to take up the formalisation of the ruling coalition, the drafting of a Common Minimum Programme, the constitution of a steering committee, and the choice of an official name for the alliance. Tamil Nadu Congress president Manickam Tagore had said ahead of the meeting that the name would be finalised on September 9.

Representatives of the Congress, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) took part. The Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) stayed away, having said they are extending only outside support to the TVK government to keep the state from coming under President's rule.

The meeting followed differences between the TVK and the Congress over projecting a prime ministerial candidate for the 2029 Lok Sabha election. The TVK has spoken of projecting Vijay as a probable candidate, while the Congress has not agreed to such a projection.

It was the second meeting of the alliance partners since the TVK came to power in Tamil Nadu after the 2026 Assembly election, with the DMK as the main opposition.
