AIADMK's Palaniswami Opposes ₹1,200-Crore New Assembly-Secretariat Complex at Pattinapakkam
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on September 11 opposed the Tamil Nadu government's proposal to build a new Assembly-Secretariat complex on Santhome Road at Pattinapakkam, saying the roughly Rs 1,200-crore project was unaffordable given the state's debt burden and unsuitable for a site with fishing hamlets, homes, schools and heavy traffic.

On September 11, AIADMK general secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami criticised the Tamil Nadu government's plan to construct a new Assembly-Secretariat complex at Pattinapakkam in Chennai, calling the project unnecessary.
Palaniswami put the estimated cost of the complex at around Rs 1,200 crore and said the state, already facing financial pressure and a mounting debt burden, should not take on fresh borrowing for the project.
He said funds earmarked for the complex would be better spent on pressing public welfare needs rather than a new administrative building.
On the proposed site along Santhome Road, Palaniswami said the area is home to longstanding fishing communities and residential neighbourhoods, has several schools nearby, and already experiences heavy vehicular congestion, making it unsuitable for a large government complex.
The AIADMK leader's remarks add to opposition scrutiny of the TVK government's infrastructure spending plans.
