Stalin presses TVK on Magalir scheme: questions whether promised "restructuring" signals a rollback
Even as the Rs 1,000 Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam payment was credited on May 15, MK Stalin maintained pressure on the TVK government, questioning whether the promised "restructuring" of the scheme ahead of the Rs 2,500 hike signalled a quiet rollback of the original entitlement.

DMK President MK Stalin continued to hold the TVK government accountable over the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam scheme on May 15, even after the Rs 1,000 instalment was credited to beneficiaries' accounts on the promised date.
Stalin's concern centred on the TVK government's stated intent to "restructure" the scheme before implementing its election promise of raising the monthly amount to Rs 2,500. He questioned whether the restructuring process would effectively dilute eligibility criteria or alter the scheme's character, amounting to a rollback of the original entitlement under a different name.
In his X post, Stalin urged CM Vijay to clarify the restructuring plans transparently and demanded that no woman who currently receives the Rs 1,000 monthly payment be left out of the upgraded scheme. The DMK continues to position itself as the guardian of the original scheme, which was introduced under MK Stalin's tenure as Chief Minister.
