Vanni Arasu, the VCK legislator sworn in as Tamil Nadu's first-ever Social Justice Minister, made an emotional appearance at a party event and spoke in English from the stage: "We have created history."
His statement — delivered in English to emphasise the weight of the moment for Dalit communities — was widely shared across social media platforms.
He thanked Chief Minister Vijay and VCK president Thirumavalavan for trusting him with a portfolio that has never existed in Tamil Nadu's 74-year democratic history.
Vanni Arasu pledged to serve the most marginalised communities of the state with full commitment and to use the ministry to bring tangible change in the lives of Dalits and other oppressed sections.
The Social Justice Ministry was created as part of the TVK government's second cabinet expansion, which brought VCK and IUML into the coalition.
