Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay launched the Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Ecosystem Scheme 2026 at the Secretariat on Thursday, October 15, on behalf of the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department, according to news reports.
The scheme has two tracks. Track 1 covers projects approved under the Centre's Semicon India Programme 2.0, which would receive state assistance over and above central support, with capital subsidies of up to 25 per cent for major projects. Track 2 is for projects outside central schemes that are considered strategically important, with fixed capital subsidies of 15 to 25 per cent of eligible fixed assets, according to reports.
Projects under both tracks must ensure that at least 50 per cent of their direct workforce comprises Tamil Nadu residents. Business Today also reported hiring and local-sourcing benefits under the scheme.
Separately, the Chief Minister had announced in the Assembly on August 31 a Semiconductor Electronics Manufacturing Park at Madhuramangalam in Kancheepuram district, to be developed through SIPCOT at a cost of Rs 175 crore. The subsidy figures above are drawn from news reports rather than the official scheme document.
