The TVK won the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly bypolls, the first electoral test for the Vijay government since it took office, when votes were counted on Friday, October 9.
In Madurantakam, TVK candidate K. Maragatham Kumaravel defeated the DMK's I. Paranthamen by a margin of more than 20,000 votes, according to The South First. In Dharapuram, TVK's P. Sathyabama defeated the DMK's S. Suganya by a margin of roughly 9,500 votes.
The AIADMK, which had won both seats in the May 2026 Assembly election, finished third in both constituencies. Both seats had fallen vacant after the AIADMK MLAs resigned and joined the TVK.
The report said the two wins raise the TVK's tally in the Assembly to 109, still short of an independent majority. Vote totals varied slightly between reports carrying partial and final counts.
