TVK Withdraws Alliance Leaders From Bypoll Star-Campaigner List After Opposition Objections
The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has withdrawn the names of several allied party leaders, including VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan and MDMK general secretary Vaiko, from its star-campaigner list for the October 6 by-elections, after the DMK petitioned the Election Commission arguing that leaders of other parties could not be included in the TVK's list.

The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has withdrawn the names of several alliance leaders from its list of star campaigners for the October 6 by-elections in Madurantakam and Dharapuram, following objections raised by Opposition parties.
The party's original list had included VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, Congress leader Manickam Tagore and Indian Union Muslim League leader K.M. Khader Mohideen, along with other leaders of allied parties.
Opposition parties questioned whether leaders who belong to other political parties could be named in the TVK's own list of star campaigners.
The DMK approached the Election Commission seeking cancellation of the original list, arguing that the inclusion of leaders from other parties was contrary to Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and also raised the issue of how election expenditure would be accounted for.
Campaigning in the two SC-reserved constituencies is set to intensify this week ahead of polling on October 6, with counting scheduled for October 9.
