The Tambaram City Municipal Corporation, working under the Urban Development Ministry, officially launched a decentralised, community-level solid waste processing facility on Friday — the first of its kind under the new TVK administration.
The initiative involves door-to-door segregated waste collection, on-site composting, and a zero-landfill policy for the locality.
Municipal officials said the project, if successful, will be replicated across all major municipalities in Tamil Nadu as part of CM Vijay's Swachh Tamil Nadu 2030 vision.
The initiative is expected to reduce dependency on centralised landfill sites and create local employment in waste processing and composting.
