DMK president MK Stalin criticised the TVK government and CM Vijay for what he described as engineering AIADMK defections to destabilise the opposition and reduce democratic accountability in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Stalin said the wave of AIADMK MLA resignations, combined with those legislators joining TVK, was part of a deliberate strategy to weaken the opposition's numbers and voice in the House.
He accused Vijay of using his government's position to poach MLAs rather than focusing on governance, questioning whether the Chief Minister was "too busy engineering defections to address real issues like the Kovai POCSO case, rising unemployment, and state debt."
Stalin argued that a healthy democracy requires a strong opposition, and that the systematic weakening of AIADMK through defections risked turning the Assembly into a rubber stamp for the ruling party.
The DMK statement comes as the fourth AIADMK MLA resigned in two days, reducing the party's strength in the 234-member House to 43.
