DMK president MK Stalin launched a sharp attack on Sunday calling CM Vijay a "puppet," saying: "They will cast aside this puppet; they will get bored of it."
Stalin questioned whether Vijay was capable of independent governance, implying external forces were controlling his administration.
Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar responded forcefully: "They said the very same thing about MGR — and we all know how that story ended."
The Speaker drew a direct parallel between the opposition's dismissal of CM Vijay and the historically similar criticism levelled at MGR, who went on to win multiple terms and become one of Tamil Nadu's most beloved leaders.
The exchange drew wide attention on social media, with supporters of both sides sharing clips and commentary.
