AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami launched a sharp attack on the TVK government at an election rally in Dharapuram on September 27, alleging that the state's electricity grid was being poorly managed.
He said ruling party leaders deserve a "doctorate in power cuts", and mocked Electricity Minister R. Nirmal Kumar for describing the outages as "power shortages" rather than administrative failures.
Palaniswami also questioned the government's spending priorities, criticising the proposed Rs 1,200 crore Secretariat building and an office for the Chief Minister on the 10th floor of Namakkal Kavignar Maaligai, at a time when the state carries a debt burden of Rs 10 lakh crore.
Contrasting this with his own government, he cited farm loan waivers, three-phase electricity supply and livestock research centres set up for farmers.
