CM Vijay Rides Driverless Metro on Porur-Poonamallee Stretch, Orders Phase 2 Works Accelerated
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inspected the Chennai Metro Rail Phase I and Phase II works and took a trial ride on a driverless train between Porur Bypass and Poonamallee Bypass, directing officials to accelerate the ongoing Phase 2 expansion.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay visited Porur Metro Station and reviewed the progress of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited's (CMRL) Phase I and Phase II works, which include over 100 km of new corridors aimed at expanding connectivity across the city.
During the visit, Vijay travelled from Porur to Poonamallee on board a driverless automated metro train currently undergoing trials, reviewing safety features and the status of the trial runs with metro officials. The Porur-Poonamallee corridor is expected to be among the first Chennai Metro stretches to operate driverless trains.
Following the inspection, Vijay directed officials to accelerate the ongoing Phase 2 works, with the review covering both the progress of construction and plans to improve commuter access once the expansion is completed.
No timeline was announced for the commercial launch of the driverless corridor.
