AIADMK's Palaniswami Convenes District Secretaries' Meeting to Review 2026 Poll Defeat

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami chaired a meeting of the party's district secretaries at Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Maaligai in Royapettah, Chennai, on September 6. It was described as the first major interaction with the district-level leadership after he completed his review of the party's performance in the 2026 Assembly election.

According to party functionaries, the discussions were to focus on the reasons for the defeat, the functioning of the organisation at the grassroots and the steps needed to rebuild the cadre base, with district secretaries presenting their assessments of the campaign and the response among voters.

The AIADMK suffered a setback in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, which was won by C. Joseph Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The TVK now heads the government, with the DMK as the main opposition.

The meeting comes as several former AIADMK leaders and functionaries have moved to the ruling party in recent months, and the leadership has said its priority is to strengthen the organisation and improve coordination between the state headquarters and the district units.
