The hearing before Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar against four former AIADMK MLAs — Maragatham Kumaravel (Maduranthakam), P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram), S. Jayakumar (Perundurai) and Esakki Subaya (Ambasamudram) — originally scheduled for July 30, was postponed to August 4.
The Assembly Secretariat informed the four legislators that they were required to submit further explanation before the Speaker on the new date, as part of continuing anti-defection proceedings.
The four are among the AIADMK legislators who resigned their party membership and joined the ruling TVK after voting for Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's government in the May confidence motion in defiance of the party whip. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has been pressing for their disqualification under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.
No reason for the postponement was disclosed. The four MLAs and Palaniswami are now expected to appear before the Speaker on August 4.
