EPS Likely to Meet PM Modi in Tiruchi on July 26 Amid Strain in AIADMK-BJP Ties

According to reports citing party sources, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tiruchi during Modi's two-day visit to Tamil Nadu on July 26 and 27, though the AIADMK has not officially confirmed the meeting.

Modi is scheduled to arrive in Tamil Nadu on the evening of July 26 after an official visit to the Maldives, landing at Tuticorin airport around 7:50 pm to inaugurate the expanded Tuticorin airport before proceeding to Tiruchi for an overnight stay.

Palaniswami is expected to meet the Prime Minister either late on July 26 or on the morning of July 27, in what would be the first formal meeting between the two leaders since the AIADMK renewed its alliance with the BJP ahead of the 2026 Assembly election.

The AIADMK has rescheduled Palaniswami's previously announced campaign events in Karaikudi, Tirupattur and Sivaganga from July 26 to July 29 without stating a reason, a shift political observers believe is meant to make way for the meeting with Modi.

The prospective meeting comes amid reported strain between the AIADMK and the BJP following the alliance's defeat in the 2026 Assembly election.
