Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar has summoned AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and four former AIADMK MLAs to appear before him on July 30 in connection with disqualification proceedings against the four legislators under the anti-defection law.
The four - Maragatham Kumaravel (Maduranthakam), P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram), S. Jayakumar (Perundurai) and Esakki Subaya (Ambasamudram) - were among 25 AIADMK MLAs who voted in favour of the TVK government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during the Assembly floor test in May, defying the party's official directive.
Palaniswami subsequently accepted 21 of the rebel MLAs back into the party after they reconciled and agreed to work under his leadership, but pursued disqualification action against the remaining four, who went on to join the ruling TVK.
Each of the four MLAs has been allotted a specific time slot between 11 am and 12:30 pm on July 30 to offer an explanation before the Speaker.
