Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar has deferred his decision on the pending anti-defection petitions against AIADMK rebel MLAs, citing legal complexity and the need for further examination of representations submitted by both sides.
With both the EPS camp and the Velumani camp now withdrawing their respective petitions — and with 4 MLAs having already resigned and joined TVK — the Speaker faces a procedurally complex situation.
The Speaker's office indicated that a formal order may be issued next week, after reviewing all withdrawal petitions and pending applications.
The development comes just a day after the Velumani-EPS patch-up, raising questions about whether the Speaker will now treat the AIADMK's internal reconciliation as grounds for closing the defection proceedings.
