The TVK government, led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, completed 100 days in office on August 17, having assumed power on May 10 after winning the Assembly election held in April.
The government said 104 investment agreements worth more than ₹1 lakh crore had been signed in its first 100 days, including 97 agreements worth ₹67,452 crore at the Vetri Tamil Nadu Investors' Conclave alone, with the potential to create over 1.07 lakh jobs across 23 districts.
Among its early welfare measures, the government began providing 200 units of free electricity every two months to eligible domestic consumers. Its revised Budget added measures including gold coins and silk clothing for brides, 70,000 concrete houses to replace huts, bicycles for Class 11 students and laptops for government college students, a hike in dearness allowance for government employees from 58% to 60%, renovation of Amma canteens, and a waiver of crop loans up to ₹50,000 for marginal farmers. Finance Minister Maria Wilson said 125 election promises had been incorporated into the Budget.
Despite the announcements, the administration has faced Opposition criticism over law and order, crimes against women, power disruptions and waste management, with questions being raised over how quickly the welfare announcements can be translated into tangible benefits while maintaining fiscal discipline.
