TASMAC employees who had been protesting against the phased closure of 717 liquor shops ordered by CM Vijay suspended their agitation on Friday, after the government assured them that the closure process would be implemented in a phased, just manner with proper redeployment and compensation policies.
The TASMAC Employees Union gave the government a one-month ultimatum to resolve the concerns of workers who will be displaced from shops scheduled for closure.
The union threatened to resume protests with full force if no satisfactory solution is provided within the deadline.
The development is seen as a temporary pause rather than a full resolution, with the government under pressure to present a concrete rehabilitation plan within 30 days.
