A fresh controversy erupted after CM Vijay's inauguration of the Thiruvalluvar statue at JNU during his Delhi visit, with some critics questioning whether the design or context of the installation was linked to saffron politics.
Revenue Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan firmly rejected the insinuation, defending the installation as a proud Tamil cultural achievement.
"Thiruvalluvar's Kural transcends all political ideologies and no colour or party can claim ownership of Tamil's greatest poet," Sengottaiyan said.
He attributed the controversy to political point-scoring and called on all parties to celebrate the milestone of Tamil culture being prominently represented at a national university.
