As part of his Delhi visit, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay inaugurated a statue of the classical Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi — installed by the Tamil Nadu government.
The inauguration at one of India's foremost academic institutions was described by CM Vijay's office as a proud moment for Tamil culture and language, symbolising the state's commitment to bringing Tamil heritage to the national stage.
The event drew significant attention from Tamil diaspora communities in Delhi and was widely covered by media as a cultural diplomacy moment for the new TVK government.
Thiruvalluvar, the ancient Tamil poet-philosopher, authored the Thirukkural — one of the greatest works of world literature, spanning ethics, politics and love — revered across Tamil communities globally.
CM Vijay's office stated that the statue's presence at JNU would serve as a lasting reminder of Tamil civilisation's contributions to Indian and world thought, while also nurturing Tamil pride among students and visitors at the university.
