Tamil Nadu CM C Joseph Vijay, in the national capital for the first time after taking charge, confined his itinerary to official engagements and returned to Tamil Nadu without meeting leaders of alliance partners — notably the Congress high command.
During his two-day visit, CM Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and submitted memoranda on key issues. However, he was unable to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and did not meet leaders of CPI and CPM.
Also missing: a meeting with Congress leaders. Vijay had sought an appointment with Rahul Gandhi for Wednesday evening after his PM Modi meeting, but the meeting did not materialise.
All India Professionals' Congress chairperson Praveen Chakravarthy clarified: "The Vijay-Rahul Gandhi meeting has not been cancelled; it has only been postponed." He added that the Chief Minister is likely to travel to Delhi again for the NITI Aayog meeting on June 11, when he may meet Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi.
The failure to meet Amit Shah is politically significant given pending Tamil Nadu-Centre issues — including the Vande Mataram protocol, fiscal claims, and the Sri Lankan fishermen crisis — all of which fall under the Home Ministry's purview.
