Former BJP Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai, who now heads the "We The Leaders" movement, alleged on August 17 that some ministers in the ruling TVK government had started taking bribes, claiming to possess audio evidence of the alleged transactions.
Speaking at an environmental awareness rally organised by his movement in Egmore, Chennai, Annamalai said the ministers concerned had begun demanding commissions ranging from 2% to 4% in government tenders.
He did not identify the ministers involved or release the audio recording he cited as evidence.
Annamalai said Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay was personally opposed to corruption, but urged him to closely monitor his ministers and officials and take immediate action against those named in the allegation. He added that commissions were not being sought in major tenders, but that some ministers had recently begun demanding cuts in other, smaller contracts.
