The TVK government reiterated that Tamil and English will remain the only compulsory languages in state schools, firmly rejecting the NEP 2020's three-language framework.
Education Minister A. Rajmohan described the two-language policy as a core ideological principle comparable to the party's commitments on women's rights and land rights.
Asked whether Tamil Nadu would adopt the Centre's PM SHRI scheme to access nearly ₹2,500 crore in funding, Rajmohan was unequivocal: "The two-language policy is a declared principle of the TVK government. There is absolutely no room for compromise on this matter."
"For the past two years, we have not received educational funding from the Central Government. We will not yield to any form of indirect pressure," the minister stated.
MDMK leader Vaiko praised the minister's stance, saying it gave "immense comfort and encouragement," and directly appealed to CM Vijay: "Lakhs of youths worked for your victory. If this government is to be a people's government, you must never accept the PM SHRI scheme."
