Tamil Nadu Announces 'Agam' Housing Scheme for 2,500 Sanitation Workers in Assembly Grants Debate
During the debate on demands for grants for the Social Justice Department in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on August 28, Social Justice Minister Vanni Arasu announced a new "Agam" housing scheme to build 2,500 permanent concrete houses for sanitation workers who lack adequate housing, and said a Tribal Cultural Centre would be set up at Nandanam in Chennai.

Participating in the debate on demands for grants for the Social Justice Department in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on August 28, Minister Vanni Arasu announced a series of welfare measures, among them a new housing scheme named "Agam" for sanitation workers.
Under the scheme, the government will build 2,500 permanent concrete houses for sanitation workers who do not have adequate housing of their own, with the stated aim of ensuring safe and dignified living conditions for the workers and their families.
The minister also announced that a Tribal Cultural Centre would be established at Nandanam in Chennai to promote and preserve the traditions and art forms of Tamil Nadu's tribal communities.
The housing scheme was among a series of announcements the minister made while presenting the department's demands for grants, which were subsequently passed by the House.
