Newly sworn-in Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson began a preliminary review of Tamil Nadu's fiscal health on Saturday, with officials briefing her on the state's current financial position.
The state carries an inherited debt burden of approximately ₹10 lakh crore from the previous administration, along with pending central fund releases.
The Finance Ministry team is working to prepare the first budget of the TVK government, expected to be presented in July 2026.
Marie Wilson, one of Tamil Nadu's four women ministers, has been widely appreciated for her clear communication style and has indicated that the budget will prioritise welfare spending, job creation, and infrastructure without raising taxes.
