Representatives of the Multiplex Theatre Owners' Association submitted a petition to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay urging the government to revise movie ticket pricing.
The petition requested the government to fix the maximum ticket rate at ₹250 across all theatres in the state.
The association argued that current unregulated ticket pricing — particularly during major film releases — has been deterring audiences and leading to a long-term decline in theatre footfall.
The multiplex owners called on the CM to use the government's regulatory powers to ensure affordability and protect the Tamil film industry's audience base.
CM Vijay's office acknowledged receipt of the petition and indicated a response would follow after due consultation with the Revenue and Information & Publicity departments.
