Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday conducted detailed consultations with Cauvery water experts and legal experts on the proposed groundbreaking ceremony by the Karnataka government for the Mekedatu dam across the Cauvery River.
The meeting was held to uphold Tamil Nadu's rights and safeguard the welfare of farmers. Taking into account the Supreme Court judgment, CM Vijay directed that immediate follow-up legal measures should be undertaken expeditiously.
Cabinet ministers N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, and R Nirmalkumar, besides Advocate General Vijay Narayan, participated in the meeting.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday said that Karnataka is set to file a new Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Mekedatu dam, reiterating the state's commitment to the project. "We are already in the process of filing our new DPR, and we will go ahead with the Mekedatu dam," he said.
The row is expected to be a major point of discussion during CM Vijay's Delhi visit, where he will urge the Centre to intervene against the project.
