Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay hoisted the Tricolour at Fort St George on August 15 for his maiden Independence Day address, vowing corruption-free governance, unveiling a ₹755.83-crore gold ring scheme for newborns from September 15, and asserting his government would defend Tamil Nadu's rights against the Centre.
Energy and Law Minister C.T.R. Palaniswami leading the demonstration in Thanjavur even as dissident leaders S.P. Velumani and Natham R. Viswanathan boycotted the protests assigned to them.
