The Supreme Court on August 10 agreed to hear on August 13 the Tamil Nadu government's plea seeking directions to Karnataka for immediate release of its due share of Cauvery water, with a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant noting the state's submission that it was not getting its due share in a rain-deficient year.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay moved a special resolution in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on August 10 making it mandatory for the state song 'Tamil Thai Vazhthu' to be rendered first at functions held by government departments, educational institutions and other state-run bodies, which was adopted unanimously by voice vote.
Former AIADMK ministers S.P. Velumani and Natham R. Viswanathan on August 9 held general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami responsible for the party's defeats in the 2021 and 2026 Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and demanded the reinstatement of over 400 functionaries removed after this year's Assembly poll.
The DMK, AIADMK, DMDK, PMK and MNM stayed away from a consultative meeting on the Delimitation Bill convened by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in Chennai on August 8, with the boycotting parties alleging the session was meant to divert attention from the Cauvery water dispute.
