AIADMK Invites Candidate Applications for October 6 Madurantakam and Dharapuram By-elections
With the Election Commission scheduling by-elections to the Madurantakam (SC) and Dharapuram (SC) Assembly seats for October 6, the AIADMK on September 9 invited applications from aspirants for the two constituencies. General secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami said the party would win both seats, alleging the vacancies were engineered through defections to protect the TVK government. The seats fell vacant after two AIADMK MLAs resigned and joined the TVK.

CM Vijay Chairs Second TVK Alliance Coordination Meeting to Draft Common Minimum Programme
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay chaired the second coordination meeting of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led post-poll alliance at the party headquarters in Panaiyur, near Chennai, on September 9. The talks were to formalise the ruling coalition, draft a Common Minimum Programme, set up a steering committee and finalise an official name for the front. The Congress, VCK, MDMK and IUML took part, while the CPI and CPI(M) stayed away, saying they are extending only outside support to the government.

DMK MLAs Evicted From Tamil Nadu Assembly Over CM Vijay's Corruption Remarks; Stalin Questions House Dignity
On September 8, the concluding day of the Tamil Nadu Assembly budget session, DMK legislators were evicted by marshals after they gathered near the Speaker's podium demanding that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's remarks from the previous day — references to Enforcement Directorate documents, the Sarkaria Commission report and the MISA Act — be expunged from the record. Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar rejected the demand, and DMK president M.K. Stalin later asked whether the House was being conducted with dignity.

CM Vijay Levels Corruption Charges Against DMK in Assembly Reply; DMK Walks Out
Replying to the debate on law and order in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on September 7, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay accused the DMK of decades of organised corruption, citing the Sarkaria Commission report, the Veeranam issue and documents he linked to Enforcement Directorate inquiries into the municipal administration department and TASMAC.
