Police arrested DMK Vilathikulam MLA G.V. Markandeyan on July 20 over remarks made at a Kovilpatti party meeting that were deemed threatening towards Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, prompting DMK president M.K. Stalin to condemn the arrest as targeting of the opposition.
