VCK's Thirumavalavan Pitches DMK-TVK National Alliance Against BJP; DMK, MDMK's Vaiko Reject It

VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan on July 13 pitched for a national-level collaboration between the DMK and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's TVK to jointly oppose the BJP, suggesting a Kerala- or West Bengal-style united front even as the two Dravidian parties remain fierce rivals within Tamil Nadu.
His remarks came amid strained VCK-DMK ties after the VCK joined Vijay's TVK-led state government following the 2026 Assembly elections.
The DMK rejected the proposal outright. DMK MP Ganapathy Rajkumar said a split-alliance model — partnering with TVK nationally while opposing it in Tamil Nadu — would not work, and reaffirmed that the party would not share a platform with TVK, which has named the DMK its principal political adversary.
MDMK general secretary Durai Vaiko separately and categorically ruled out any TVK-DMK national alliance, calling it "impossible," and alleged that the DMK had held backdoor talks with an AIADMK-BJP combine to form a government after the recent Assembly polls.
Reacting to Thirumavalavan's proposal, Vaiko said the VCK chief deserved a "Nobel Prize" for the idea; Thirumavalavan responded sarcastically, thanking Vaiko for the "recommendation" and saying he would extend his gratitude if such a prize were ever awarded.
