MDMK chief Vaiko made a strong statement on the Mekedatu dam issue on Monday, announcing a major agitation if Karnataka proceeds with the reservoir project.
Vaiko declared that the Mekedatu reservoir — which Karnataka is pushing ahead with under a new Detailed Project Report (DPR) — would significantly reduce Tamil Nadu's share of Cauvery waters.
He said he would hold statewide protests and called on all Tamil political parties to unite against the project, irrespective of their political differences.
Vaiko's statement adds political pressure on CM Vijay's government, which is already pursuing legal options before the Supreme Court's Cauvery Water Management Authority against Karnataka's unilateral project.
