DMK walkout: Udhayanidhi Stalin asks if TVK's "politics of change" became "politics of exchange"

In a dramatic scene on the floor of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin led a coordinated walkout of all DMK MLAs along with the lone DMDK MLA before the confidence vote began. The walkout was a deliberate political statement rather than a logistical absence.
In a scathing speech delivered before the walkout, Udhayanidhi directly challenged CM Vijay, questioning whether the TVK's founding promise of a "politics of change" had in practice become a "politics of exchange" — a pointed reference to the support the new government had secured from rebel AIADMK members. He argued that the alignment between TVK and a faction of the AIADMK — two parties that campaigned against each other — represented a betrayal of voters' mandates.
Udhayanidhi declared that the DMK refuses to be a witness to what he termed a "manufactured majority" assembled through back-channel deals, and vowed that the party would take its fight to the people's court in the months ahead. The DMK's decision to walk out rather than vote against was itself a strategic calculation — it avoided legitimising the process while keeping the opposition's credibility intact.
