The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and its alliance partners held a joint public meeting in Madurantakam on Thursday, October 1, seeking to show unity and strengthen their campaign against the DMK and AIADMK ahead of the October 6 Assembly bypoll.
It was the first joint campaign event organised by the TVK-led Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance since the bloc was formed on September 9.
VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore, MDMK general secretary Vaiko and IUML president K.M. Khader Mohideen were scheduled to address the gathering, along with TVK general secretaries N. Anand and Aadhav Arjuna.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay was not part of the meeting and is scheduled to campaign separately in the constituency on October 2. Reports noted unease among alliance partners after his September 25 campaign in Madurantakam, where he did not share the stage with their leaders.
