Following a week of intense political negotiations after the May 4 election results, TVK President Vijay consolidated a working majority by securing letters of support from the Indian National Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), and the Left parties.
TVK had emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats on counting day but fell short of the 118-seat simple majority mark. The breakthrough came on Saturday evening when VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan and IUML representatives formally handed over their support letters at the TVK headquarters.
With the coalition tally rising to 121, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar invited Vijay to form the government. The swearing-in was scheduled for May 10, with Nehru Stadium selected as the venue to accommodate the historic scale of public attendance expected.
