The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly conducted the first Question Hour of the 17th Assembly on August 27, as part of the ongoing budget session, months after the TVK government took office in May.
Question Hour had not been conducted since the 17th Assembly was constituted, with the delay attributed to state government departments taking time to prepare replies to questions submitted by legislators.
The commencement followed repeated demands from DMK MLAs for the restoration of Question Hour, which they argued was essential for legislative scrutiny and government accountability. Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar had announced on August 25 that Question Hour would begin on August 27.
