The Election Commission of India officially confirmed the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency by-election schedule: nominations from June 1 to 8, with the poll on June 18.
The seat fell vacant after CM Vijay, who won Trichy East with a margin of 27,416 votes in the May 2026 elections, chose to retain his Perambur constituency.
TVK is expected to field a candidate with strong local roots in the Trichy area; the party's candidate announcement is awaited.
DMK is expected to contest the seat as the principal opposition challenger; AIADMK's stance — whether to field a candidate from the EPS or rebel faction — is yet to be finalised.
Given CM Vijay's personal popularity in the constituency and TVK's strong performance in the May elections, the seat is widely expected to return to TVK.
