The Tamil Nadu government's special permission granting extra 9 AM shows for 'Karuppu', the Suriya-Trisha Krishnan starrer directed by RJ Balaji, remained valid and was acted upon for May 15.
The film, released in theatres on May 14, had been granted permission for special early-morning shows on both May 14 and May 15. The May 14 morning show was cancelled due to unresolved financial disputes between the production and distribution sides. However, the May 15 permission stood, and screenings proceeded.
The production house of 'Karuppu' publicly thanked Chief Minister Vijay on X, writing: "Special thanks to our honourable Chief Minister Thiru. Joseph Vijay for granting the special permission for the 9 AM shows of Karuppu." The government's willingness to extend special exhibition permissions for major Tamil releases continues a precedent of supporting Tamil cinema at the box office.
