Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay convened a meeting at the Secretariat with the Finance Secretary and higher officials to ensure the monthly entitlement of Rs 1,000 under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam scheme is credited to women beneficiaries' accounts for May without interruption.
The scheme, implemented by the previous DMK government and named after late party leader M. Karunanidhi, provides monthly assistance to eligible women. CM Vijay directed that the payment cycle continue seamlessly until the TVK government fulfils its election promise of raising the monthly amount to Rs 2,500 for women below the age of 60.
The meeting comes amid pressure from opposition leaders who flagged a delay in the May disbursement. By intervening directly, CM Vijay signalled that existing welfare commitments of the previous administration would be honoured in full while the new government works toward its own enhanced targets.
