The Tamil Nadu government under Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay credited the monthly entitlement of Rs 1,000 under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam scheme to women beneficiaries' bank accounts on May 15, delivering on the date assured by the administration.
CM Vijay had convened a meeting at the Secretariat on May 14 with the Finance Secretary and senior officials specifically to ensure the disbursement proceeded without delay. The payment was transferred directly into the registered bank accounts of eligible women across the state.
The scheme was implemented by the previous DMK government and is named after late party leader M. Karunanidhi. The TVK government has committed to raising the monthly amount to Rs 2,500 and has assured continuity of the existing payment cycle until that enhanced target is implemented.
