CM Vijay Returns to Chennai as UK Investment Mission's Final Tally Reaches ₹15,300 Crore

Chief Minister and TVK president C. Joseph Vijay returned to Chennai on September 18, concluding a six-day investment mission to the United Kingdom that began on the night of September 10.

The state government said the delegation's agreements, signed in London on September 14, added up to investment commitments worth around Rs 15,300 crore across sectors including auto components, research and development, renewable energy, power-grid equipment and Global Capability Centres (GCCs), with more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs expected.

Among the commitments, Ernst & Young agreed to set up a roughly Rs 1,000-crore Global Capability Centre along Chennai's proposed Mount-Poonamallee GCC corridor, expected to generate more than 2,000 high-value jobs.

Sweden-based Sigma Technology Group, operating in India as Sriya Solutions, agreed to expand its GCC operations in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, projected to create around 600 jobs in embedded systems, electrification and industrial digitalisation, while UK-based Wilson Power Solutions agreed to set up a roughly Rs 300-crore transformer manufacturing facility in Tiruvallur district, expected to create about 400 jobs.

The government said the visit was part of its broader push to position Tamil Nadu as a USD 1.5-trillion economy by 2036.
