With the Congress formally announcing V.D. Satheesan as the next Chief Minister of Kerala following the UDF's victory, focus in Tamil Nadu political circles shifted to whether Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay would attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Kerala government.
The question carries diplomatic weight. Congress and IUML — both UDF constituents in Kerala — are alliance partners of the TVK in Tamil Nadu and played a key role in helping CM Vijay secure a simple majority after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election.
Adding a personal dimension, outgoing Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had congratulated CM Vijay after his swearing-in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, with Vijay thanking the "comrade" for his generous words. Vijay's decision on attendance at Satheesan's ceremony is being watched as a signal of the TVK government's approach to inter-state alliance management.
