CM Vijay Announces ₹30 Lakh Award for Hurdler Vithya Ramraj After Asian Games Bronze
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced a ₹30 lakh cash award for Coimbatore's Vithya Ramraj, who won bronze in the women's 400m hurdles at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya with a new national record of 54.75 seconds.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced a cash award of ₹30 lakh, to be given on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, for hurdler Vithya Ramraj after her bronze medal in the women's 400m hurdles at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya.
Vithya clocked 54.75 seconds to set a new national record, breaking the mark of 55.42 seconds set by P.T. Usha at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, which had stood for 42 years. Vithya, from Coimbatore, had equalled the record at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
The bronze is her second medal at the ongoing Games, following a silver in the mixed 4x400m relay on September 24.
In his message, the Chief Minister congratulated Vithya for making Tamil Nadu and India proud, and said her victory would inspire and instil confidence among the state's youth and women.
