CM Vijay Orders 24×7 Drinking Water in All 25 Corporations — Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 MoU Seals ₹2,177 Cr Allocation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has directed officials to ensure uninterrupted 24×7 drinking water supply in all 25 municipal corporations across the state, while also undertaking a comprehensive strengthening of water infrastructure in urban local bodies over the next five years.

The directive is underpinned by the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 MoU signed between the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Union Government on June 2, in the presence of CM Vijay and Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil.

Under the agreement, the implementation period of the Jal Jeevan Mission has been extended until December 2028, and Tamil Nadu will receive an initial allocation of ₹2,177 crore from the Union Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

The MoU is expected to accelerate piped water connections to un-served and under-served urban households, supplementing ongoing work in rural areas under the earlier Jal Jeevan Mission phase.

CM Vijay had earlier flagged water availability and quality as a governance priority at his review meetings with district collectors, and the 24×7 corporate coverage directive is seen as a direct follow-through on that commitment.
