The day after 25 AIADMK MLAs crossed the floor in support of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's confidence motion — defying an explicit party whip — AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami chaired an emergency meeting at his residence with his supporting legislators to map out the party's response.
Large numbers of AIADMK cadres gathered outside Palaniswami's residence with bouquets to express solidarity. Newly appointed party office-bearers also called on EPS, signalling a consolidation of the loyalist camp. Palaniswami reiterated his accusations of political inducement and "poaching" by the TVK government, and hinted at legal action against the expelled MLAs.
Simultaneously, the rebel faction led by S.P. Velumani, C. Ve. Shanmugam, and C. Vijayabhaskar convened their own meeting to discuss their position and future course of action. Political observers say the parallel emergency meetings mark the effective end of any near-term prospect of AIADMK reunification, and the party now faces a formal split in the Assembly.
