Rationalist Mindset
Rejecting ideas harmful to human well-being.
The rationalist pillar inherits Periyar's core conviction: that superstition, caste hierarchy, and blind religious conformity are obstacles to human dignity, not expressions of it. TVK does not target religion itself — it targets the specific institutional and customary practices that use religion or tradition to justify harm. The Periyar inheritance is operational, not ornamental.
Public school curricula prioritise scientific method, evidence-based reasoning, and Tamil intellectual history. Civic reasoning — media literacy, logical fallacy recognition, constitutional rights education — becomes a compulsory element of the secondary school curriculum. This is the rationalist investment in the next generation: not just what to think, but how to think.
Practices that cause physical or social harm — temple-entry exclusion based on caste, "honour" killings, and the stigma that prevents families from seeking mental healthcare — are enforcement failures, not cultural sensitivities. A dedicated Tamil-language public broadcasting wing commissions science and civic programming for school and community screens, extending the rationalist mandate beyond classrooms into the broader public sphere.
