‘Thalapathy 62’: Things you need to know about Vijay’s film

Vijay’s forthcoming yet-untitled film is one of the biggest releases this year. The team, which began shooting earlier this year, has successfully completed two schedules. Vijay is likely to wrap up the shoot sometime later this year. It has already created a huge buzz on the internet as Vijay is working with AR Murugadoss yet again. While the film is expected to hit the screens later in 2018, here are the things you need to know about ‘Thalapathy 62’.

Vijay’s third film with AR Murugadoss

Vijay’s transformation from ‘Ilayathalapathy’ to ‘Thalapathy’ is a story in itself. With more than two decades in the industry, Vijay has established himself as one of the biggest stars in Tamil cinema. He’s only next to superstar Rajinikanth when it comes to fan-base. His last release, ‘Mersal’, once again reiterates the fact that he’s the most bankable star in the industry. Vijay is once again teaming up with AR Murugadoss for the yet-untitled ‘Thalapathy 62’. It must be noted that Vijay and Murugadoss are one of the successful actor-director combinations in Tamil cinema. The duo’s previous outings such as ‘Thuppakki’ and ‘Kaththi’ became a blockbuster success at the box-office. ‘Thalapathy 62’ already has huge expectations and rightly so. Will the two spun magic once again? Only time will tell.

Social drama

‘Thalapathy 62’ is tipped to be a social drama that is said to have a strong political connect. AR Murugadoss is one filmmaker who is known to infuse a strong message through his films. For the first time, Murugadoss is collaborating with writer B Jeyamohan for the project. This was evident in films like ‘Ramana’, ‘Kaththi’, ‘Thuppakki’ and to an extent in ‘Spyder’. Many of Vijay’s films have questioned the establishment and have been successful at the box-office as well. Made on a lavish budget by Sun Pictures, Vijay’s test shoot for the film set the internet on fire. The pictures, which showed Vijay sporting a business suit, were widely circulated by fans on social media. However, one has to wait and see what Murugadoss has done something new in ‘Thalapathy 62’.

Interesting supporting cast

One of the major highlights of ‘Thalapathy 62’ is the strong supporting artists that boast of names such as Radha Ravi, Pala Karuppiah, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Yogi Babu in pivotal roles. Touted to be a political drama, actor Radha Ravi is reportedly playing a powerful politician in the film. In fact, rumours are rife that Vijay will be seen as a business tycoon in ‘Thalapathy 62’. Actress Keerthy Suresh has been paired opposite Vijay for the second time after ‘Bairavaa’. Reports also suggest that Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who is teaming up with Vijay for the first time, will be seen in a negative role. With such diverse actors on board, one could expect a perfect entertainer from the team.

TFPC controversy

Recently, ‘Thalapathy 62’ came under severe criticism for going ahead with the shoot, despite the ongoing strike in the industry. It was producer J Satish Kumar who first raised objections against the Tamil Film Producers’ Council for its biases. Later, actors Siddharth and Karunakaran jumped on the bandwagon and slammed the TFPC for allowing ‘Thalapathy 62’ to shoot. However, the representatives from the council issued a statement clarifying its stance on the same and stated that four Tamil films were given special permission for shooting. This decision to allow certain films to carry on with the shoot reportedly irked many actors and producers.

Music by AR Rahman

It’s a well-known fact that Academy Award winner AR Rahman is one of the busiest composers in Indian cinema. Reportedly, AR Rahman gave the nod after listening to the script. Interestingly, ‘Thalapathy 62’ marks Rahman’s consecutive film with Vijay after the commercial success of last year’s ‘Mersal’. In fact, the album of ‘Mersal’ was a huge hit among the audiences, especially the song ‘Aalaporan Thamizhan’. One of the things to look forward to in Vijay’s next is the music. Reports also suggest that ‘Thalapathy’ is likely to sing a song for Rahman’s composition. However, the talks are still in the nascent stage. Earlier to this, Vijay and AR Rahman have worked together in films like ‘Udhaya’ and ‘Azhagiya Thamizh Magan’.
